 Movie Summary: The Girl in the Bathtub

This movie is based on a true story. It is available in Netflix in the English language. It is the story of a young paralegal who has an affair with her boss and she also has an affair with a married man. Few days before her death, she was also drugged by a stranger at a pub who then took her to his home, probably raped her and knew her address and took her house keys. The paralegal - Julia Law then changed her house locks and all. But Julia was dealing with a bigger problem - her alcohol addiction. She was addicted to alcohol and wanted to get rid of her addiction, so she was abstaining from drinking which then caused panic attacks, so she visited a doctor. Julia planned to take certain medications which will help her with the withdrawal. So she was at her boss - Charles Peruto's house where she was on medication and was staying away from alcohol. But she soon felt the need to drink and experienced a seizure and drowned in the bathtub. Her death was considered to be accidental. 

Movie Summary: B.A Pass 2

This movie is available on Netflix and it is available in the Hindi language. It is the story of a girl - Neha who relocates to Mumbai in order to avoid arranged marriage. At Mumbai, she is persuaded by Manorama - a pimp and Vijay - a villager, to pursue acting. Turns out, Neha is not good at acting and is rejected from several roles. Neha falls in love with a rich dude but he reveals that he is already married and rejects her after having an affair with her for months. He tells her that he did not know that she had feelings for him. Neha is shattered and takes to drinking. In a drunken state, Neha forces Vijay to marry her. When Neha is wide awake, she starts fighting with Vijay and tells him to get out of her house, she then learns that she married him while she was drunk and that he has posted those pictures online. Vijay takes Neha to his village. Neha's parents and sister are shocked after learning of her marriage through a Facebook post. During a fight between Neha and Vijay, Neha's parents call her to congratulate her on her success of her latest song that she composed (Neha is unaware that her song has become super hit) but Vijay snatches the phone and tells Neha's parents about Neha's behavior while she was in Mumbai - how she used to drink, take drugs, go out with men, etc. Neha - unable to deal with Vijay's revelations to her parents, commits suicide by drinking a bathroom cleaning liquid. 

Movie Review: The Girl in the Bathtub

I liked this movie even though the ending was sad. The story was nice and depicted the life of an independent girl. I feel like the reason Julia died was that she wanted to get off of her addiction immediately, she was too hard on herself and was not giving herself time. Maybe she wanted to get over her addiction quickly because her birthday was approaching and she wanted to be sober in the new year of her life. I also feel that if she had the proper support system, this would not have happened. Julia's doctor had warned her that she should not take the medication alone. Julia had asked her married lover to stay with her while she on the meds, but he could not since he had to spend time with his wife and children. Maybe if Julia had someone who was hers, she would have lived. Overall, I would rate this movie a 4.5/5 stars.

Movie Review: B.A Pass 2

I thoroughly hated this movie. It was extremely sad. It was similar to B.A Pass, the only difference was that in B.A Pass, a boy was exploited and in B.A Pass 2, a girl was exploited. Such movies remind one to be cautious and vigilant and not trust anyone, not get wasted and stay alert. I would give this movie 1/5 stars.

  • In both the movies, the main character dies
  • Both Neha and Julia died on their own, that is, they were not murdered.
  • Both of them died due to chemicals.
  • Both of them had multiple affairs.
  • Neha and Julia were both staying alone without their family.
  • Neha and Julia were both alcoholics.
  • Both of their lives were destroyed due to alcoholism. Neha got married when she was drunk and Julia died when she was drunk.
  • Both fell in love with their bosses. Julia was in love with the defense attorney under whom she worked and Neha loved the person who was the producer of the movie that she was acting in.

Differences between The Girl in the Bathtub and B.A Pass 2

  • Julia was more or less sensible. Neha was senseless. 
  • Julia had a real job and perhaps a bright future. Neha did not have a steady job.
  • Julia was independent. Neha was not very witty and could not manage on her own.
  • Julia died due to an accidental death. Neha committed suicide.
  • Julia was unmarried. Neha got married.
  • Julia had hopes and plans. Neha was hopeless. 
  • Julia did whatever she did out of her own wish. Neha was brainwashed and exploited.

Books I Have Been Reading Recently (Part 10)

That Night by Nidhi Upadhyay I'm reading this book in a paperback format and have completed around 50 pages. The book is about four friends who played a game of Ouija while at college and a girl of their hostel died. Twenty years later someone is trying to mess with them even though they live in different parts of the world. Intriguing premise. And interesting writing style so far. I think I might like this book, let's see. The book is around 300 pages long. The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas This book is about Lina and Aaron Blackford - two colleagues who initially seemingly hate each other but somehow end up becoming each other's fake dates to some major events. I've read like 150 pages of this book so far and am finding it repetitive and boring as of now. Let's see how it goes. Raazi This movie was a solid 4.5/5 stars in my opinion. What I liked the most about this movie is that it portrays a young girl who spies for her country against all odds. The movie is based on a true story and it shed light on the unsung heroes of Indian history. The main character Sehmat left college, married and lived in Pakistan, so that she could gain intel about the upcoming war. The intel gathered by her and other spies helped India to get prepared for the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 and the Ghazi attack. The movie is based on a book called "Calling Sehmat." Alia Bhatt plays the role of the lead actress and she was able to represent what the real Sehmat would have felt like - scared, brave, patriotic, loving, dangerous, caring, human, selfless and a thousand more indescribable emotions.
