Movie Summary: 7

7 is a Thriller movie released in 2019 and available on Netflix India. The movie starts with several women reporting in the police station about their missing husband - Karthik. The police then comprehends that the same man has married 4 women. Two of the women namely: Ramya and Jenny whom Karthik married worked in his office. Another woman that he married was a lady who could not speak. So the police starts searching for Karthik but are unable to find him for several months. A man from a mental hospital claims that he knows Karthik but he also claims that Karthik's  name is not Karthik but Krishnamurthy. The police do not pay any heed to him since his words seem utterly illogical to the police because he claims that Karthik actually studied with him in school which is impossible because Karthik is in his 20s whereas the man from the mental hospital is in his 50s. Then few months later the man from the mental hospital mysteriously dies in a brutal way. Further, Karthik who was missing for several months is found by the police and arrested. The police beats him and questions him severely but Karthik denies all allegations and claims that he was in another city all these past months. Then the women who claimed to be Karthik's wives appear. Karthik denies knowing any of the four girls except Priya. He recognizes Priya to be his wife but tells the police that he does not know who Ramya, Jenny and the dumb girl are. Karthik is injured by Priya and admitted in the hospital. Karthik escapes from the hospital. Ramya, Jenny and the dumb girl pretend to be kidnapped. Priya is actually kidnapped by her maid - Saraswathi. Saraswathi then reveals her past: Although now Saraswathi is an old lady who works as a maid, when she was younger, she was the daughter of a rich man and she was secretly in love with Krishnamurthy but Krishnamurthy loved someone else. Krishnamurthy had not shared details about his secret lover to anyone, Saraswathi took advantage of that and made the villagers believe that she and Krishnamurthy were in love. So the villagers forced Krishnamurthy to marry Saraswathi. It is then revealed that Saraswathi is mentally ill and talks to herself, pretending that she is talking to Krishnamurthy. Also, Saraswathi had actually murdered several people including her father just so that she could marry Krishnamurthy. Then Krishnamurthy came to know that she was mentally ill and tried to explain about the situation to the villagers but no one believed him and they chased him but he escaped and started a new life with his actual lover in another village. He had two kids: a girl and a boy named Karthik. Even after Krishnamurthy escaped, Saraswathi believed that he was there and continued to have conversations with herself thinking that she was actually talking to him. The villagers realized this and tried to confront her but she just hit one of them in the head and he lost his mental balance and was admitted in the hospital, note that this was the man who told the police that Karthik was not Karthik but Krishnamurthy. Since Saraswathi had attacked a person, she was serving time in a prison or mental institution in another village/city. Once she was released she saw Krishnamurthy living happily with his wife and children, she then killed Krishnamurthy, his wife and his daughter. But she did not know about Krishnamurthy's son and so Krishnamurthy's son - Karthik lived and grew to be a man. One day when Saraswathi had become old, she saw Karthik and thought he was Krishnamurthy. She started working in his house as a maid to know more about his life. She saw that he had a wife - Priya. She did not like that. She wanted to kill  him but she could not because she was old so she took the help of three girls: Ramya, Jenny and the dumb girl who pretended that he married them so that he could go to jail in a fraud case. The girls: Jenny, Ramya and the dumb girl (who is not dumb by the way and is just pretending to be dumb) are caught by the police. Saraswathi shoots herself. Priya is rescued by the police and Karthik.

Movie Review: Last Night in Soho

This movie was absolutely unique and interesting. The characters were likeable, the plot was thick, the visuals were great, everything was awesome. I would rate this movie a 5/5 stars. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes to watch thriller movies. The movie was also realistically portraying how the life of a college student in London would look like and how the life of an aspiring female singer in the 1960s would look like.

Movie Review: 7

This movie was captivating and kept my attention till the very end. The plot was rich and interesting. I would rate this movie a 4.7/5 stars. It was a unique movie and was not predictable like many other thriller/mystery movies out there. The movie is also available in Telugu but I watched it in Tamil. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes Tamil movies and an element of mystery. The movie was able to portray realistically to some extent the life of Indian corporate professionals.

Similarities between Last Night in Soho and 7:

  • In both the movies, old ladies had committed crimes and were the major culprits.
  • In both the movies, the old ladies had a gruesome past.
  • Both old ladies had committed murders when they were young.
  • Both old ladies were plotting to kill even when they had become old.
  • Sandie and Saraswathi both killed someone they loved. Sandie initially was in a romantic relationship with Jack which obviously later fell apart. Saraswathi was in love with Krishnamurthy although he had a lover.
  • Both Sandie and Saraswathi committed suicide. Sandie remained in a house of fire and didn't try to escape although she could have. Saraswathi shot herself in the head.
  • Both Sandie and Saraswathi did not marry or have a family after their tragic life events and led a lonely life.
  • Both of them had clear goals while they were young. Sandie wanted to be a singer and Saraswathi wanted to marry Krishnamurthy.
  • Both Sandie and Saraswathi were being helped by much younger girls while they themselves were old. Ellie tried to help Sandie. And Ramya, Jenny and the not-actually-dumb girl helped Saraswathi.

Differences between Last Night in Soho and 7:

  • Sandie killed people so that she could take revenge for what they had done to her. But Saraswathi killed people just because she could not get what she wanted. Also, it might be possible that Sandie killed all the men in self defense. Anyway, the first person that Sandie killed was Jack and this was clearly shown to be an act of self defense because Jack was threatening Sandie with a knife when she grabbed the knife and killed him with it.
  • Sandie committed suicide so that she doesn't have to go to jail. Saraswathi committed suicide so that Karthik (or according to her - Krishnamurthy) never knows where she has hidden his wife - Priya.
  • Sandie can to some extent be considered a good person whereas Saraswathi was plain bad.
  • Sandie was not mentally ill. Saraswathi was mentally ill.
