Game-Changing Apps

Forest The Forest App is an app which uses the Pomodoro technique. Pomodoro means 'tomato' in Italian. And Pomodoro technique is when you use a tomato shaped timer to set a 25 minutes timer to work on any task. And then you take a 5 minute break. This technique is used to beat procrastination. More often than not, after people set the 25 minute timer, they want to continue working and not take a break. Also, people are less likely to procrastinate initially because they don't have to commit to the job but to only 25 minutes. And once they get into the flow, they want to do the task. The Forest app, lets users build a virtual tree/plant while they are working/studying. You can set a timer for anywhere between 10 minutes to 120 minutes and within that time, you cannot use your phone, or the plant will die. And if you cannot work on the task but you have started the timer, you can end the task and the plant will die. At the end of the day, you will have a small forest for all

Why Our Whole Idea of a Career is Wrong

From childhood, we are made to believe that getting a job is the ultimate aim of our life. We work hard on this goal through school and college and we finally achieve this goal and only then do we realize that it was the wrong goal. Working for someone else can never give us the satisfaction and motivation that working for ourselves gives us. All through school and college, we work for ourselves - our grades, our marks, our rank, etc. But in a job, you are working for someone else, someone else's brand, someone else's dream. Of course you are not motivated. Of course you are exhausted. And yes, you are underpaid. All this is a natural response. We need to change the way we look at making a livelihood. We need to promote entrepreneurship at all levels. More than 75% of people who earn in India are self-employed, but these are mostly people who are not educated like tea shop owners, food stall owners, farmers, rickshaw drivers, etc. Even educated people need to do some kind of bu

Series That I Saw Recently (Part 3)

Ginny and Georgia This was an amazing series. I really loved it. I especially liked the character of Georgia. She was so badass. Her story was sad though, she was raped by her step father, she ran away from home, got pregnant as a teenager, lived in poverty for years, committed two murders, did fraudulent activities, etc. But everything she did was to keep her children - Ginny and Austin safe. On the other hand, I did not like the character of Ginny much. She was very rude to her mother and thought she knew best when she clearly did not. I also really liked some of the side characters such as Ginny's dad, Ginny's best friend - Maxine, Ginny's ex - Hunter Chen, Maxine's mom - Ellen, etc. I feel like some of the cast were really pretty like for example Maxine and Georgia, they looked like people from magazine covers. The story was also thrilling for me. I would recommend this series. It has two seasons and it is available on Netflix. Wednesday This was another great serie

Series That I Saw Recently (Part 2)

Harlan Coben's Shelter Mickey loses his father in a car crash and his mother is admitted in a rehab for depression. Mickey is staying with his aunt in New Jersey when a strange woman tells him that his father is still alive. Mickey meets Ashley who soon disappears. Mickey then becomes friends with Ema and Spoon and they help him to find Ashley. Soon, Mickey discovers that his dad had been working for an organization which rescues people who have been trafficked. An amazing series filled with twists, turns, surprises, secrets, friendships, relationships, drama and action! A must-watch. This series is available on Amazon Prime Video and it has one season with eight episodes. It is an Amazon Original series which is a really quick watch! F.R.I.E.N.D.S This series was amazing. I only watched it because I loved Big Bang Theory and many people who like that show also like this one. And I could see the similarities between the two shows. I liked all the characters Monica, Chandler, Rachel

Series That I Saw Recently

Cruel Summer This series has two seasons. This is an Amazon Original series and is available on Amazon Prime Video. Season 1 was centered around Kate who was groomed and kidnapped by the assistant principal at her school - Martin. This season also centered around Jeanette who is rumored to have seen the Kate at the Martin's house and still did not inform authorities. Kate puts a case on Jeanette. And Jeanette does seem shady because she went from nerdy to chic during the time when Kate was missing. She also became best friends with Kate's friends and she also became the girlfriend of Kate's boyfriend while Kate was missing. After Kate is rescued, we also see Jeanette transforming from chic to someone who looks like a cult member. All this makes Jeanette look suspicious. This season is a web of lies, friendship, love, betrayal, transformation, etc.  The second season is centered around Megan who wants to become a software developer and Isabella who comes to live in the small

Books I Have Been Reading Recently (Part 5)

'Inspiring Thoughts' by Swami Vivekananda  I have read more than 80% of this book and its quite good. The book has wise sayings of Swami Vivekananda and it also has aesthetic illustrations. I am reading this book in the Kindle version and the Kindle version is free if you are an Amazon Prime member. So do read this book if what you are looking for is a quick yet useful read. There is a similar book which has sayings by APJ Abdul Kalam. I might read that next. The sayings in this book by Swami Vivekananda are quite relatable and easy to understand as well. I do recommend this book. 'Rumi's Little Book of Life' by Rumi This book is a collection of poems by the poet Rumi. The poems were originally written in Persian but have been translated by translators and made into this book which is available in English. I am reading this book also through Kindle and this book is also available for free for Amazon Prime members. I am done with more than 20% of the book and this bo

Sexism in the Indian Cinema Industry

Image
I opened bookmyshow today and guess what I saw? Four out of the five most recommended movies running in theatres right now have a title which is the name of a male. These were the titles of the movies: - Leo - Tiger Nageswara Rao - Bhagavanth Kesari - Ganapath - A Hero Is Born Why do you think this is? I don't know either. I can only speculate. What I think is, maybe the writers of these movies are male and so they can only think from a male perspective. Okay, but then the director is the one who employs all these actors, writers, etc. So why can't they hire female writers? Maybe there are lesser female writers or maybe these directors are mostly male and so they like the stories with the male main character better. But why are there not many female writers and female directors? I came across an interesting fact, women directors are less invested upon when compared to male directors. And making a movie costs a lot of bucks. So since women directors are less invested upon, they

Star

A star Is never that far From it's destiny, it's fate is ajar, Everyone knows that it is going to shine, even if they are afar. You cannot put a star Behind bars, It will still shine in its radar. You cannot lock a star In a jar, Or tarnish it with tar. A real star Is a little bizarre And is not afraid of scars. You will never find a star In a bazaar Or a bar Because there is no char In those places for a Tsar. It is hard to find a true star Even if you travel all the way to Qatar Or even Mars. A bright star Is greater than Akbar And better than Caesar. So always remember, a star Is never that far From it's destiny, it's fate is ajar And everyone knows that it is going to shine, even if they are afar.

Flower

A flower will always bloom Even if you send it for its doom. A flower will never be in gloom It will always have room For hope and it will recover soon. A flower will always assume  Its sweet nature, even if you send it to a goon. A flower will be fragrant at noon And even when out comes the moon. A flower will act as a boon Even if you send it to a loon. A flower will resume  To spread goodness even if it is being swept away by a broom. A flower will spread its lovely perfume Even if you try to kill it with a boom.

Books I Have Been Reading Recently (Part 4)

'How to Become a People Magnet: 62 Life-Changing Tips to Attract Everyone You Meet' by Marc Reklau I am reading this book on Kindle and I have completed 50% of it. The chapters are short and digestible. The book has many useful tips and suggestions such as always keep the conversation about the person you are talking to, make them feel important, don't argue, don't talk behind people's backs, believe in people's potentials, talk about their interests, listen more than you talk, give genuine compliments, keep up your word, let your actions speak, etc. I think this is a must read book for anyone especially people in sales. I think this book can help anyone get friends, clients, partners, etc. The book claims that more than 85% of our success depends on how we deal with people and if there is any truth to it, this book is the manual to success! 'My Evil Mother: A Short Story' by Margaret Atwood I am reading this book also on Kindle and I have completed arou

New Beginning

I realized that I have been living a lie, I let time fly by, Without even thinking That time would pass while I'm blinking. I never learnt, I just burnt The midnight oil And I did spoil My sleep To weep And memorize the text in books. I put my hooks  In all the wrong places. So the fish that I caught had the wrong faces. Here I am with no satisfaction No traction No motivation No determination. But I am turning the steering Gonna stop chilling Have taken a new direction Going on a brand new mission With a newfound vision.

Places I want to go to

I want to go to Copa Cabana To have a banana. I want to go to Fiji Islands To wear flower garlands. I want to go to Greece And look at the seas. I want to go to Japan And use their unique fan. I want to go to the States To change my fate. I want to go to Paris To marry a heiress. I want to go to Arabia And also Korea. I want to go to England And also Switzerland. I am in India But I dream of Australia. I don't have a passport But I want to see every port. I haven't been to a foreign land But I wanna go to Thailand. This might sound funny But I want to travel Germany. I feel confined  And unable to find The world outside My window-side.

Reviews of Recently Released Movies (Part 4)

Iraivan This is a movie about a serial killer who killed many women plus instigated another man to become a serial killer too. Some scenes are too graphic and I had to literally close my eyes. Jayam Ravi's role felt limited and he did not talk much in the movie. Rahul Bose also died midway. Nayanthara also came in only some scenes. In this movie, Rahul Bose is a psycho killer who kidnaps and kills women for no apparent reason. He is captured and put in a mental facility but escapes. Many of the hero's loved ones like for example the hero's best friend and also the hero's sister are killed which makes the movie sad. Even his best friend's wife, daughter and sister are also put in life- threatening situations which also further enhances the sad tone of the movie. Overall this movie did not meet my expectations. I would give it a 2/5 stars. Mark Antony This was an amazing movie, it had it all - science fiction, humor, action, suspense, romance. The story is about how M

Change

I fell And brushed off the dust to feel well. I was injured And that's when I conjured Magic from within To help me win. I lied And cried And fried My opportunities, Lost my immunities, Did not fulfill my duties. And so I was beaten down, And frowned upon. I decided to change me So that I would set myself free From the guilt And so that I would be able to protect everything that I have built. Transitions are hard But we need to discard The initial difficulties In order to unleash the possibilities. There is no room for motivation, No scope for admiration Or appreciation. What is not enough is self-preservation, What we need is dedication, Need to use my imagination And my concentration To make this transformation. Everyone here thinks they are the Pope But I should not lose hope. I will find a way To make hay While the sun shines Because although these are difficult times They are not as difficult as they could be And there is still some spark left in me.

I'm Worthy Whether You Like It Or Not

I don't need an Apple laptop  In order to feel like I am on top Because what I do will make your eyes pop. I don't need to make ten people pause And question them, in order to feel like a boss Because I already have a purpose and a cause. I don't need your gifts And your thrifts Or your shifts. I don't need you to give a fuck About me, because I make my own luck And I make my own buck.
